Glossary

The technical terms used by the television industry, manufacturers and stockists when talking about the switch to digital can be very confusing. This glossary is designed to help demystify the jargon.

If there are terms that you’d like explained, but they aren’t listed below, let us know!

Digital Free-To-View TV

Digital free-to-view TV consists of the TV channels available via analogue television (SBS ONE, ABC 1, 7, 9 10), as well as additional channels (such as ABC2, ABC 3, ABC News 24, SBS TWO, 7TWO, ONE, GO!). The platform for digital free-to-view television is called Freeview.

Free-to-air broadcasters (Seven Network, Nine Network, Network Ten, the ABC and SBS) are expected to be progressively adding even more new digital channels and content to the Freeview platform over the next few years.
