The technical terms used by the television industry, manufacturers and stockists when talking about the switch to digital can be very confusing. This glossary is designed to help demystify the jargon.
If there are terms that you’d like explained, but they aren’t listed below, let us know!
- Digital refers to the way in which content is transmitted from the TV stations to your TV. It uses technology that has a few benefits over the analogue system:
• Minimal interference: It eliminates ghosting and snowy effects caused by interference.
• Better quality: It can provide very high-quality image and sound (See SD - Standard Definition & HD High Definition)
• More channels: Because it’s a more efficient broadcasting mechanism, it allows broadcasters to squeeze more channels into the same space.
