Over time, you can expect the
HD channels to provide more and more unique content.
ABC News 24 is Australia's first
free-to-air, 24-hour
digital news service, offering coverage of national and global breaking news. ABC News 24 began broadcasting Australia-wide at 7:30pm AEST on Thursday 22 July.
ABC News 24 will be broadcast in high definition via
digital channel 24 and in
standard definition via channel 20.
The ABC News 24 on-air presenting team offers some of Australia’s leading broadcast journalists – including: Chris Uhlmann, Ali Moore, Scott Bevan, Virginia Trioli, Joe O’Brien, Juanita Phillips, Jeremy Fernandez, Jane Hutcheon and Paul Kennedy. The ABC News family includes some of Australia’s finest journalists, such as Tony Jones, Alan Kohler and Mark Corcoran.
Yes. On 1 March, Freeview welcomed the launch of
digital broadcasting by community TV station, TVS (Television Sydney). TVS is the first community TV station in Australia to begin simulcasting both
digital and
analogue signals. TVS offers viewers a wide range of
free-to-view programmes, with a large amount of content developed and produced by and for members of Sydney’s many and varied communities. More than 40% of content on TVS is made in Sydney, with another 30% coming from other community TV stations around Australia.
TVS is a
standard definition channel that is available on
digital channel 44 to residents in the Sydney metropolitan area who currently receive a
digital signal.
Other community TV stations that are expected to begin free
digital broadcasting in the coming months are C31 Melbourne, C31 Adelaide, QCTV Brisbane and WTV Perth.
You will be able to access the Community Television stations via Freeview when each station starts broadcasting
digital in their respective regions.

The Seven Network has announced that its new

Network Ten has also announced that it will launch a new
digital channel, ELEVEN in early 2011.
The timing for new channel launches and the content that appears on them is at the discretion of the individual broadcasters. Our website will be updated with information about new channels as and when they are announced – so please check back regularly.
Each individual broadcaster makes its own decision about retransmitting its services via Pay TV. Check with your Pay TV provider about the availability of these channels.
The trial datacasting channels (temporary
spectrum allocation) were turned off at midnight on the 30th April 2010. The channels involved include:
1. Australian Christian Channel (ACC)
2. Teachers TV
3. National Indigenous Television Service (NITV)
4. EXPO home shopping channel
If you live in Sydney, you may need to re-tune your
digital receiver to remove the redundant channels from your electronic program guide (
EPG).
In most cases there will be a 'menu' button on the remote control that will allow you to follow a series of prompts in order to re-tune your device. This should cause the defunct channel listings to disappear.
If you are experiencing difficulties, you should consult the instructions that came with your
digital receiver.
Sydney's TVS became Australia's first community TV station to begin simulcasting both
digital and
analogue signals. Other community TV stations expected to begin
digital broadcasting in the coming months are C31 Melbourne, C31 Adelaide, QCTV Brisbane and WTV Perth. A new community licensee in Perth will also commence
digital-only broadcasts this year.
ABC
HD, which was accessible via Channel 20, is no longer broadcast by the ABC. Channel 20 now offers a
standard definition simulcast of ABC News 24.
ABC News 24 offers viewers 24 hour, commercial-free coverage of national and global breaking news.
ONE is broadcast in both
standard definition (
SD) and high definition (
HD) to residents in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. So if you live in one of these cities and you have a TV that is capable of receiving a high definition
digital signal, you can find ONE by going to Channel 1 on your TV set. Or, if you have a TV that is capable of receiving a
standard definition digital signal, you can find ONE by going to Channel 12.
ONE is broadcast in regional areas too – including Canberra, Regional NSW, Regional Victoria, Regional QLD and Tasmania. ONE is only available in these areas in high definition via Channel 50 – so you will need equipment that is capable of receiving high definition
digital signals.
You may need to retune your TV before ONE appears on your TV set, so don’t forget to give this a go if you are experiencing any problems.
ABC News 24 is broadcast nationally in high definition via
Digital Channel 24 and
standard definition on Channel 20. To access ABC News 24 via the
digital channel 24, you will need a receiver (TV,
set top box or personal video recorder) that is capable of receiving a high definition
digital signal.
If you already have high definition equipment but are still unable to see ABC News 24 in your channel list, you will need to retune your
digital device. The process for doing this is straightforward - but does vary according to the brand you have purchased, so please check the instruction booklet that came with your product.
7mate will launch on 25th September 2010 to residents in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, Canberra, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Regional Victoria (including Mildura)- with high definition coverage of the Australian Football League Grand Final. 7mate will offer comedy, sci-fi, adventure, reality, factual and first-run movies – including new episodes of Family guy, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, That 70’s Show, Jersey Shore, Stargate Atlantis and Fifth Gear. PRIME has announced that it will launch 7mate on Saturday 25th September in Regional Australia (Canberra, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Regional Victoria – including Mildura). 7mate will be broadcast to these areas in high definition via
digital channel 63. You will need a TV that is capable of receiving a high definition
digital signal to watch 7mate.

digital multichannel, ELEVEN in early 2011. ELEVEN will be the new and unrivalled destination for fun and bold programming with particular appeal to the ‘distinctly youthful’ market.
ELEVEN will feature all-new episodes of Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie, 90210 and more. ELEVEN will also become the exclusive
free-to-air home of the iconic The Simpsons. The new channel will also feature Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver.
ELEVEN will be broadcast 24 hours a day in
standard definition digital transmission via Channel 11. Broadcasting is planned to commence in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in early 2011.
Southern Cross Television has confirmed that it will not match the 25 September mainland launch date of the Seven Network’s new television channel, 7mate. The station will instead use this channel
spectrum as part of its Commonwealth Games coverage, to ensure that all Tasmanians, including those who do not have access to
digital television, are able to watch this premium sporting event.
Southern Cross Television will broadcast the Commonwealth Games live on both its
digital and
analogue services as well as providing regular programming on Southern Cross
HD via
digital channel 60 during the Games period.
TDT will also broadcast the Commonwealth Games on a two-hour delay.
